Applied Physical Electronics wins $9.6 million Navy pulse simulator deal
The Spicewood, Texas, firm will upgrade the Naval Air Warfare Center's Vertical Electromagnetic Pulse Simulator to boost reliability and handle larger test assets, with work running through January 2029.
Applied Physical Electronics LC won a $9.6 million Navy contract modification to upgrade an electromagnetic pulse simulator.
The Spicewood, Texas, firm received the modification, designated P00003, to a previously awarded cost-plus-fixed-fee contract, N0042126C0012. The award exercises an option to develop, fabricate, install, and acceptance-test upgrades to the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division’s Vertical Electromagnetic Pulse Simulator (see war.gov). The work supports improved reliability, ensures compliance with current testing standards, enhances testing capability, and expands the simulator’s capacity to accommodate larger and taller test assets for the Navy.
Work will be performed in Spicewood, Texas, at 85%, and Patuxent River, Maryland, at 15%, and is expected to be completed in January 2029. Fiscal 2026 research, development, test and evaluation (Defense Wide) funds of $2.9 million will be obligated at the time of award. The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Patuxent River, Maryland, is the contracting activity.
Applied Physical Electronics has led development of electromagnetic pulsed power interference and compatibility products since 1998 (see apelc.com). The company recreates accurate threat-level waveforms to test systems for vulnerabilities and to harden critical assets against attack. It has built EMP simulators for the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, and civilian customers, and previously modernized the Naval Ordnance Transient Electromagnetic Simulator for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (see magneticsmag.com).
