Kongsberg receives $50.3 million Navy deal for over-the-horizon missile modules

Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace will build launcher missile modules for the U.S. Marine Corps over-the-horizon weapons system, with work running through May 2031.

Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace received a $50.3 million Navy contract modification for launcher missile modules on July 2, 2026.

The Kongsberg, Norway, firm took a firm-fixed-price modification to a previously awarded contract (N00024-25-C-5434) exercising an option for launcher missile modules that support the over-the-horizon weapons system. Work will span Kongsberg, Norway (56%); Toulouse, France (13%); T’Harde, Netherlands (8%); Schrobenhousen, Germany (7%); and additional sites in Norway, the United States and the United Kingdom, with completion expected by May 2031. Fiscal 2025 procurement (USMC) funds of $50.3 million covered the award and will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., serves as the contracting activity.

Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace is Norway’s premier supplier of defense and aerospace systems, with a portfolio spanning command and control, weapons guidance, surveillance, communications and missiles (see aviationweek.com). The company is a business unit of Kongsberg Gruppen, a firm dating to 1814 that Norway’s government majority owns (see wikipedia.org). It is best known abroad for anti-ship missiles, including the Naval Strike Missile and the earlier Penguin (see wikipedia.org). The modules serve the Marine Corps’ over-the-horizon weapons system, which extends naval forces’ ability to engage targets at long range (see Google).

This award is the first to Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace, Kongsberg, Norway, in 2026, and the eighth Department of Defense contract awarded in California during the year. It establishes an initial benchmark within the Navy portfolio, falling between the 2026 year-to-date minimum of $9.2 million and maximum of $8 billion. The award was one of seven Department of Defense contracts issued nationwide on July 2, 2026.
