Trump Gives Florida Attorney General Uthmeier His Complete Endorsement
Trump backs Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier for a full term, praising his crackdown on more than 1,000 accused offenders and his defense of presidential power at the Supreme Court.
WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald J. Trump endorsed Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier for a full term, praising the state’s top prosecutor as an “America First Warrior” in a message on Truth Social.
Trump credited Uthmeier with more than 1,000 arrests of accused offenders and a defense of presidential firing power before the nation’s highest court. The president tied his endorsement to Florida, the state he won in 2016, 2020 and 2024.
Here is the full post on truthsocial: “Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is doing a GREAT job for the Sunshine State, which I won BIG in 2016, 2020, and 2024. James is an America First Warrior, who is a true champion for “MAGA.” He is THE MAN behind ALLIGATOR ALCATRAZ, and argued strongly at the United States Supreme Court in defense of my Executive Power to fire Deep State bureaucrats. Under James’ fearless leadership, over 1,000 CRIMINAL PEDOPHILES have been arrested, missing children have been SAVED, and our Great Members of Law Enforcement have been empowered to do their jobs and, KEEP FLORIDA SAFE. In his next term, James will continue to work tirelessly to Ensure Law and Order, Uphold our Constitutional Rights, and Protect our always under siege Second Amendment. James Uthmeier is a Strong Conservative Fighter and Prosecutor, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement — HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN!” on August 3, 2026 at 6:50 PM ET.
This is Trump’s 25th message released today, and the last post was 22 minutes ago, and it is not part of a thread. On average, Trump produces 18 posts per day since his inauguration on January 20, 2025. The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 14 of his 458 posts over the last 30 days classified as crime posts.
Uthmeier became Florida’s attorney general by appointment, not election. Governor Ron DeSantis named him to the post in 2025 to fill the vacancy created when former Attorney General Ashley Moody moved to the U.S. Senate, according to stateagreport.com. He previously served as the governor’s chief of staff and general counsel, and he joined the state government in 2019 as deputy general counsel, according to stateagreport.com.
The endorsement carries weight in a state Trump has dominated at the ballot box. His backing positions Uthmeier to seek a full four-year term with the president’s public support, a signal to donors and Republican primary voters across Florida. A rival candidate would face the difficult task of running against Trump’s stated preference in a state where his margins have grown.
Uthmeier lists his priorities as protecting the innocent, supporting law enforcement, fighting gangs and traffickers, and standing up for constitutional rights, according to stateagreport.com. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Florida and his law degree at Georgetown University Law Center, according to stateagreport.com. The Florida Office of the Attorney General handles consumer protection, criminal appeals and civil enforcement statewide, according to myfloridalegal.com.
For the average Florida resident, an attorney general shapes how the state prosecutes crimes, defends its laws in court and pursues consumer fraud cases. The office decides which fights the state enters and which it declines, choices that reach household budgets and neighborhood safety.
This is not the first time Trump has thrown his weight behind a state prosecutor. He has issued endorsements in attorney general races and down-ballot contests across the country, using his platform to elevate allies. The pattern has repeated through multiple election cycles since 2016.
Florida voters will decide the attorney general race at the ballot box, with the general election set for November 2026. A primary date and the full field of candidates remain unconfirmed in public filings reviewed for this report.
Presidential endorsements of state law officers stretch back generations, as happened before. Andrew Jackson leaned on loyal state officials to enforce his agenda in the 1830s, and Franklin Roosevelt sought to purge disloyal Democrats from state and congressional posts in the 1938 primaries, targeting several incumbents. Roosevelt’s effort largely failed, as most of the officials he opposed won reelection, a reminder that even a popular president cannot always deliver a favored candidate to victory.
