Trump Denies Wanting Ford’s Theatre Named After Him, Blames CNN and MSNBC
Trump calls reports that White House aides floated renaming Ford's Theatre in his honor a “ridiculous lie” and “FAKE NEWS,” blaming CNN and MSNBC for spreading the claim.
WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald J. Trump denied reports that White House officials discussed adding his name to Ford’s Theatre, the Washington, D.C., landmark where President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in 1865, calling the claim fabricated and blaming cable news networks.
Here is the full post on truthsocial: “The Dumocrats make up lie after lie. The new one is that I want Ford’s Theater named after me. That’s where Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. Who would want that? I don’t! It is FAKE NEWS started by MSDNC AND CNN.” on September 24, 2026 at 7:15 AM ET.
This is Trump’s 2nd message released today, and the last post was 8 minutes ago, and it is not part of a thread. On average, Trump produces 17 posts per day since his inauguration on January 20, 2025. The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 5 of his 45 posts over the last 30 days classified as Media bias posts.
“The story that the White House, or me, want to affix my name to Ford’s Theatre, in Washington, D.C., where Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, is a ridiculous lie. It is FAKE NEWS! Who would possibly want a name on such a tragic place?” Trump said in an earlier truthsocial post, according to independent.co.uk.

The episode unfolded against broader administration efforts to attach Trump’s name to federal properties. Trump officials added his name to the U.S. Institute of Peace and affixed his likeness to National Park Service passes, passports, and coins, according to independent.co.uk. Trump announced plans in December for a fleet of Navy battleships named after him, and CNN reported last month that the Navy was working to rename an aircraft carrier after the president, according to independent.co.uk.
Trump’s effort to rename the Kennedy Center had already drawn legal resistance. A federal judge blocked the addition of his name to the Kennedy Center for a second time earlier in September, according to independent.co.uk. A day after that ruling, Trump was photographed examining a poster that appeared to address the demolition of the historic performing arts venue, according to independent.co.uk.
No date for any official decision on renaming Ford’s Theatre has been announced.
