WASHINGTON D.C. — US finalizes new lower fuel economy standards in boost for gas-powered vehicles.
The Trump administration finalized rules lowering the fleetwide fuel economy target to 34.9 miles (about 56.2 kilometers) per gallon by 2031, rolling back a 50.4 mpg Biden-era goal.
Officials say the rollback will lower average vehicle costs by $1,300, though environmental groups warn it will increase consumer fuel costs.
