Republican Mike Rogers, a former U.S. congressman, is running against Democratic nominee Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, a physician and former public health director, for Michigan’s open Senate seat. El-Sayed, who would be the first Muslim U.S. senator if elected, is vying with Rogers to succeed retiring Democratic Senator Gary Peters.

Video transcript So the great state of Michigan, which I won decisively in the last election, is looking seriously, I guess, at a man named Mohammed Abdul El-Sayed, who is absolutely Muslim Brotherhood. The last thing we need is Muslim Brotherhood in the United States Senate. It doesn’t represent the values of Michigan, and it doesn’t represent the values of the United States of America. You have a man named Mike Rogers. He’s 100%, he has my complete and total endorsement. He’ll be a great senator. You cannot even think about putting Mohammed El-Sayed in that position. You gave me such a great early lift because the polls right from the beginning were great for me and I appreciate it, and then we went on to a big win. So, thank you very much.
