Trump Demands Iran Pay Compensation for Regional Deaths in Any Future Talks
Trump says Iran should be held responsible for damages and deaths in Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Gaza, and claims he has instructed his representatives to seek compensation in all future negotiations.
WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald J. Trump said Iran should bear responsibility for damages and deaths across four regional conflicts, tying the demand to ongoing nuclear negotiations. Trump made the claim in a Truth Social post that quoted an earlier message from his own account.
Here is the full post on truthsocial: “Also, with respect to the Iran negotiations, Iran should be responsible for the damages and death caused to the people of Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Gaza! Trump” and the quoted earlier post: “I see that Representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran are asking for compensation for the damage done to them during the last five month Military Conflict (started because, THEY WILL NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON), even though it was never mentioned in any of our negotiations or meetings! But it is an interesting idea because now I am likewise demanding compensation from Iran, for all of the people that they have killed and gravely wounded with their roadside bombs and many conflicts, for which they are famous, as led initially by General Soleimani, including the families of those killed on the USS Cole, and thousands of others killed in combat. Additionally, compensation should be paid to the families of the hundreds of thousands of innocent protestors that Iran has killed over the last 50 years, not to mention the 52,000 that have been killed in the last five months. I have instructed my representatives to put this firmly into any, and all, future negotiations. Thank you for your attention to this matter! Trump” on August 10, 2026 at 1:37 PM ET.

Trump said Iranian representatives are seeking compensation over what he described as a five-month military conflict. He said the conflict started because Iran will not be permitted to have a nuclear weapon, and he claimed the compensation issue never came up in any negotiations or meetings. Trump countered that Iran should instead pay for people it has killed and wounded, citing roadside bombs and conflicts he attributed to Iran and to General Soleimani.
Trump claimed compensation should include the families of those killed on the USS Cole and thousands of others killed in combat. He also claimed payments should go to families of what he called hundreds of thousands of protesters killed by Iran over the last 50 years, plus 52,000 he said died in the last five months. Trump said he has instructed his representatives to press the demand in any and all future negotiations. Those casualty figures and attributions are Trump’s own claims and remain unverified.
