JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA — BAE Systems – Jacksonville Ship Repair LLC won a $49.3 million Navy contract to overhaul the USS Wichita on July 2, 2026.
The firm-fixed-price award covers maintenance, modernization and repair of the USS Wichita (LCS 13) under a fiscal 2026 docking selected restricted availability. The scope includes all labor, supervision, equipment, production, testing, facilities and quality assurance needed to prepare for and accomplish the Chief of Naval Operations Availability for critical modernization, maintenance and repair programs. The contract includes options that, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value to $60.9 million.
Work will be performed in Mayport, Florida, and is expected to be completed by May 2027. Fiscal 2025 other procurement (Navy) funds of $46.3 million (94%) and fiscal 2026 other procurement (Navy) funds of $3 million (6%) will be obligated at the time of award and will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.
The contract was not competitively procured, in accordance with 10 U.S. Code 3204 (a)(3) Industrial Mobilization.
BAE Systems Jacksonville Ship Repair operates a fully functional shipyard on the St. Johns River, two miles from the Atlantic Ocean, focused on maintenance, repair, overhaul and conversion of naval and commercial vessels (see Google). The shipyard’s proximity to Navy operations at Mayport underpins its role as a regional ship-repair hub.
