WHITE HOUSE — Donald J.Trump amplified Sen. Bernie Moreno‘s call to pass the SAVE America Act by mentioning the source (see Breitbart) on a Truth Social post on June 7, 2026 at 1:13 AM EST.
Here is the full post (see truthsocial): “Bernie Moreno @berniemoreno Senate Democrats have lied for months, claiming the Save America Act is racist, disenfranchises minorities & makes it harder for low-income Americans to vote. None of that is true. They can’t win without cheating. We must pass the Save America Act. Sen. Moreno: “Embarrassing” Congress Can’t Pass SAVE America Act From Breitbart.com”
Trump’s post included a screenshot of a post by Moreno on X, in which the Ohio Republican senator accused Senate Democrats of lying about the SAVE America Act. Moreno wrote that Democrats have spent months claiming the bill is racist and disenfranchises minorities, calling those assertions false. The attached image showed Moreno in a blue suit speaking into a microphone at what appeared to be a congressional hearing.
Moreno made the remarks during an appearance on BreitbartNews Saturday, where he compared U.S. election procedures to those in Colombia (see breitbart.com). “It’s kind of embarrassing from the perspective of Congress, that we can’t even pass a SAVE America Act,” Moreno said. He described Colombian elections as requiring proof of national citizenship, paper ballots counted by hand, and single-day voting with no mail-in ballots.
Moreno said Colombia deployed roughly 750,000 election observers, including about 13,000 from outside the country (see Breitbart.com). “It’s an incredibly accurate way to run an election. My takeaway, I felt embarrassed for the United States of America,” Moreno said. He also pointed to California, where he said ballots were still being counted, calling it “completely insane.”
The SAVE America Act would require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections. Democrats have opposed the legislation, arguing it creates barriers for minority and low-income voters (see Google). The bill has stalled in Congress despite backing from Trump and several Republican senators.
Moreno’s interview also touched on Trump’s endorsement of Abelardo de la Espriella, the conservative candidate in Colombia’s presidential race (see Breitbart.com). Espriella faced a runoff election against Sen. Ivan Cepeda on June 21.
Trump has posted about elections 136 times in the last 30 days, out of 641 total posts on Truth Social during that span.
