Trump Shares Video Claiming California Waived Trucking License Requirements for 45,000 Immigrants
Trump posts a video in which a speaker claims California waived citizenship checks, background checks, and physicals for 45,000 commercial driver's license applicants.
WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald J. Trump shared a video on Truth Social amplifying unverified claims that California waived standard commercial driver’s license safety requirements in 45,000 cases involving immigrants who crossed the border illegally.
Here is the full post on truthsocial: “It was a big secret here in the San Joaquin Valley that there was a lot of people who should not be driving semi trucks. Yeah. Because I go to truck stops. I drive every week to Stanford, 200 miles (about 322 kilometers). Until I was ill from hit my farm, and I would stop at rest stops. Sometimes I would cost a fruit, sometimes stay, and I would see these truckers speaking foreign languages. And then I would see them on the road and they were driving in the left lane, not just the center lane but the left lane. Oh god. You know, I’m going down Pacheco Pass and it’s 50 miles (about 80.5 kilometers) an hour and it goes down to 35 for a truck and they were going 70 on the downhill curve. And then I would read about all these wrecks and then I would see them go by my house 70 miles (about 113 kilometers) an hour in a rural road. So I started talking to a lot of my Indian friends off the record and they would say we’re getting people from Mexico, they come from India, they go, come across the border, they will drive a semi truck for six, fifteen dollars an hour. Right. And I thought, well, how did they get a license? And they smile. And then to get a California driver’s license you have to be 21, a professional license, 21. You have to take a four-hour written test. You have to take a two-hour actual driving, in-person test. But before you do that, you have to be a citizen. You have to have a background check and you have to have a physical, and all of that was waived for in 45,000 cases, and they had interstate abilities once they had that license. And Trump, all of a sudden, you know, Sean Duffy said that’s over. We’re not doing that anymore. We’re going to shut down—I don’t know what it was—200 driving schools. And everybody said it’s racist, but that’s what I mean by a counter-revolution. He’s trying to do it. It’s, you know, it’s trying to shut this down immediately.” on September 24, 2026 at 8:21 AM ET.
This is Trump’s 5th message released today, and the last post was 1 minute ago, and it is not part of a thread. On average, Trump produces 17 posts per day since his inauguration on January 20, 2025. The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 5 of his 48 posts over the last 30 days classified as image-only posts.
The video’s speaker, whose identity the post does not establish, claims California’s standard commercial driver’s license requirements — citizenship verification, a background check, and a physical examination — were waived in 45,000 cases, granting those license holders interstate driving privileges. The speaker also said Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced an end to the alleged practice and the closure of roughly 200 driving schools connected to it. The claims have not been independently verified, and the post presents them as part of what the speaker called a “counter-revolution” by the Trump administration against unlawful licensing.
