Trump Says Iran Is “Completely Collapsing”
Trump posts a brief foreign policy message claiming Iran is in a state of total collapse.
WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald J. Trump said Iran is “completely collapsing” in a brief post on Truth Social.
The post, consisting of a single declarative sentence in all capital letters, offered no evidence or specific context for the claim. Trump signed the message “President DJT.”
Here is the full post on truthsocial: “IRAN IS COMPLETELY COLLAPSING!!! President DJT” on August 24, 2026 at 8:41 AM ET.
This is Trump’s 1st message released today, and the last post was 2 days ago, and it is not part of a thread. On average, Trump produces 18 posts per day since his inauguration on January 20, 2025. The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 23 of his 354 posts over the last 30 days classified as Foreign Policy posts.
Trump did not specify what prompted the claim or cite any particular development inside Iran. The post arrived after a two-day silence on his account, breaking the gap with a foreign policy statement rather than his more frequent domestic commentary.

The United States has maintained sweeping economic sanctions against Iran targeting the country’s oil exports, banking sector and senior government officials. Those sanctions, first reimposed after Trump withdrew from the 2015 nuclear agreement during his first term, have remained a cornerstone of Washington’s pressure campaign against Tehran. Iran’s economy has contracted under the weight of those restrictions, with the country’s currency losing significant value against the dollar over the past several years.
Trump has previously used similar language to describe adversaries he views as weakened by American economic or diplomatic pressure. His post did not reference ongoing nuclear negotiations, military developments or any specific internal crisis inside Iran. No senior administration official issued a corresponding statement elaborating on the claim.
For ordinary Americans, the state of Iran’s government and economy carries implications for oil prices, regional military commitments and the broader stability of the Middle East. A genuine collapse of the Iranian state could send energy markets into turmoil and raise questions about the security of American military personnel stationed across the region.
Trump has made sweeping claims about Iran before. During his first term, he said maximum pressure sanctions would force Tehran to negotiate a new nuclear deal on American terms. Iran did not agree to new terms, and the two countries came close to direct military conflict in January 2020 after a U.S. drone strike killed Iranian General Qassem Soleimani near Baghdad International Airport. Tehran retaliated with ballistic missile strikes on Al Asad Air Base in Iraq, injuring more than 100 American service members, though no U.S. troops died in the attack. The two sides pulled back from further escalation, but no new agreement materialized before Trump left office in January 2021.
