Vanderbilt University received a $10.5 million Air Force award to build a prototype for trustworthy artificial-intelligence software.

The engineering change proposal, designated P00012, modifies a contract first awarded in 2023 and raises its total value to $16.2 million from about $5.7 million, the Department of Defense said. The work covers an Assured Neuro-Symbolic Software Prototype. The award obligated roughly $9.1 million in fiscal 2025 research, development, test and evaluation funds.

Vanderbilt is a private research university in Nashville, Tennessee, that ranks among the top 25 private universities for research and innovation as measured by the National Science Foundation, according to vanderbilt.edu.
