Air Force taps Peter M. Bonetti for promotion to major general

Bonetti directs Strategic Plans, Programs and Requirements for Headquarters Air Force at the Pentagon and would gain his second star under the nomination.

Air Force Brig. Gen. Peter M. Bonetti has been nominated for promotion to major general, the Department of War announced on June 24, 2026.

Here is the full post (see war.gov): “Air Force Brig. Gen.Peter M. Bonetti for appointment to the grade of major general. Bonetti is currently serving as director, Strategic Plans, Programs and Requirements, Headquarters Air Force, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.”

Major general is a two-star general officer rank, one step above brigadier general in the Air Force’s commissioned officer ranks (see war.gov). The promotion would advance Bonetti within the service’s senior leadership. He currently serves as director of Strategic Plans, Programs and Requirements for Headquarters Air Force at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. (see war.gov).

This nomination is one of 109 officer nominations announced so far this year. Hawaii leads all states with 10 nominations, while the Army has the most among military services with 74. At the same point in 2025, the database recorded only 26 officer nominations. The previous nomination announcement occurred 21 days earlier.
