Trump Says AI Is “Big Topic” With Xi but Wants to “Leave It Exactly Where It Is”

— Donald J. Trump said artificial intelligence — which he calls “Super Intelligence” — will dominate his summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, while signaling that neither Washington nor Beijing wants new international regulations on the technology.

Here is the full post on truthsocial: “A big day with President Xi of China. Super Intelligence (SI) will be a big topic of discussion, but I want to leave it exactly where it is. That is China‘s position also. Our guardrail is the DOJ! President DJT” on September 24, 2026 at 8:38 AM ET.

This is Trump’s 13th message released today, and the last post was 0 minutes ago, and it is not part of a thread. On average, Trump produces 17 posts per day since his inauguration on January 20, 2025. The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 7 of his 56 posts over the last 30 days classified as Foreign Policy posts.

Xi Jinping arrived at the White House for his first visit in more than a decade, according to cbsnews.com. The two leaders were expected to hold bilateral talks and a state dinner following an arrival ceremony on the South Lawn featuring a flag display, an Armed Forces Full Honor Cordon, the United States Army Herald Trumpets, and F-22 flyovers, according to cbsnews.com.

Trump used his preferred term “Super Intelligence” as a new moniker for artificial intelligence, according to kfgo.com. He said the Department of Justice already provides sufficient guardrails to regulate and prosecute AI companies. That framing appeared to play down concerns from industry leaders about misuse of the technology, according to kfgo.com.

The summit takes place as the United States and China extend a monthslong tariff truce and navigate uncertainty around Iran, Ukraine, and Taiwan, according to cbsnews.com. The two countries are rivals in advanced artificial intelligence development but could discuss some safety protocols during the visit, according to cbsnews.com.

Some lawmakers pushed back on the visit’s tone. Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut told reporters Wednesday that Beijing had assisted Tehran and that Trump should confront Xi directly. “The president should not be feting and praising Xi. He should be telling him, “Knock it off!”” Blumenthal said, according to cbsnews.com.

Trump’s alignment with China on AI guardrails — framing the DOJ as the sole necessary check — puts him at odds with lawmakers from both parties who have called for more robust oversight as U.S.-China competition in artificial intelligence intensifies.
