Thoma-Sea Marine Constructors LLC has won a $26.6 million Navy contract modification for two NOAA research ships.
Thoma-Sea Marine Constructors LLC of Houma, Louisiana, received the firm-fixed-price modification to a previously awarded contract for the definitization of an engineering change tied to the shore power configuration and capability for both National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Auxiliary General Oceanographic Research Variant Ship One and Two, along with the settlement of other ship changes (see war.gov). Work will be performed in Houma, Louisiana, and is expected to be completed by November 2028. Procurement, acquisition, and construction NOAA funds in the amount of $26.6 million will be obligated at the time of award and will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.
NOAA uses these oceanographic research vessels for scientific investigations to study the oceans and climate (see war.gov). The shore power update allows the ships to draw electricity from dockside connections rather than running onboard generators while in port.
