— Donald J. Trump threw his full support behind Congressman John Moolenaar, the Michigan Republican who chairs the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, ahead of a primary in the state’s 2nd Congressional District.

Trump praised the lawmaker’s record on the economy, taxes, energy, border security and gun rights, and directed supporters to a voting-location page as polls prepare to open. The endorsement lands one day before Michigan’s primary.

Here is the full post on truthsocial: “Congressman John Moolenaar is an incredible Representative for the fantastic people of Michigan’s 2nd Congressional District! As the Chairman of the Select Committee on the CCP, John is fighting tirelessly to put our Country’s Interests, FIRST! He is working hard to Grow our Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Unleash American Energy DOMINANCE, Keep our Border SECURE, Support our Brave Military/Veterans, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment. John Moolenaar has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election. Election Day is Tuesday, August 4th. GET OUT AND VOTE FOR JOHN – HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN! Find your Voting Location here: https://swampthevoteusa.com/michigan/” on August 3, 2026 at 6:14 PM ET.

This is Trump’s 15th message released today, and the last post was three minutes ago, and it is not part of a thread. On average, Trump produces 18 posts per day since his inauguration on January 20, 2025. The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 70 of his 448 posts over the last 30 days classified as Elections posts.

Trump directed voters to a state-specific turnout page hosted by the Republican National Committee by mentioning the source (see swampthevoteusa). That page lists Tuesday, August 4th, as primary election day and notes that Michigan allows in-person, same-day voter registration. Nine days of mandatory early voting began July 25, and early voting ended August 2, according to swampthevoteusa.

Moolenaar, a former chemist born in Midland, Michigan, has served in the U.S. House since 2015, according to ipac.global. He represented Michigan’s 4th district until 2023, when redistricting moved him to the 2nd district. He chairs the Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party, according to ipac.global.

The endorsement carries weight in a district where Republican primary voters have rewarded candidates aligned with Trump. A presidential nod can consolidate support, deter serious challengers and drive turnout among the party’s base. For rivals, an endorsement of this scale narrows the path to victory before a single vote is counted.

For an average Michigan voter, the immediate stakes are procedural rather than sweeping. The primary determines which Republican advances toward the general election, and the turnout page steers residents to their assigned locations and deadlines. Same-day registration remains available on election day, according to swampthevoteusa.

This is not the first time Trump has intervened in a Michigan Republican contest. He has issued waves of endorsements across House and Senate races since returning to office, part of a pattern in which his backing has repeatedly shaped primary outcomes in his favor.

Michigan voters will render the next decision at the polls on August 4, 2026. County clerks will certify results in the days that follow, setting the field for the general election.

Endorsements from a sitting president in his own party’s primaries are as old as the modern presidency, though they have not always succeeded. Franklin D. Roosevelt tried to “purge” Democrats who opposed his New Deal in the 1938 midterm primaries, campaigning against several incumbent senators. Most of his targets survived and won their primaries. That rebuke curbed presidential meddling in congressional races for a generation.
